Hillcrest hopes you have had a good week. Here is what is upcoming:

Sunday, Sept. 23:
The Sermon: The Real Temptation, is based on James 4.
Sunday Evening, the Church Council will meet at 6pm.

Tuesday, Sept. 25
Tuesday Bible Study will meet.

Wednesday, Sept. 26
Our ‘What a Fellowship!‘ series continues on Wednesday night and we will be sharing our favorite Hillcrest Memories

Sunday, Sept. 30 will be our final sermon in the series on James.

October 3
Wednesday Night, Jeanette Havens will be present to talk about he family’s work in Macedonia this past summer.

Also, check out the new page under the About Us tab for information on two Reading with the Rev. book discussions coming in October and November.
We will be discussing Was America Founded as  a Christian Nation on Tuesday, October 16th at 7pm and Brian McLaren’s Why Did Jesus, Moses, The Buddha and Mohammed Cross the Road? on November 13th at 7pm.

Mid-Week Update

The week has gotten away and the update is late. Please forgive.

Both Tuesday afternoon Bible Study and this evening’s Bible Study and Prayer Meeting were excellent gatherings. Join us next Wednesday Night as we continue our “What A Fellowship!” series and we talk about our favorite hymns.

This Sunday, we continue our study of James with a Sermon titled, The Rudder, and we will explore James 3.
Also, this Sunday Morning there will be a brief called Church Conference to vote on a Transition Committee/Pastor Search Committee. This is a recommendation from the Nominating Committee and there will be no discussion on this matter in the conference. But you are welcome to contact the Nominating Committee with any questions you have or to express any concerns you have as well.

In the weeks ahead:
9/18- Tuesday Bible Study and Prayer at Noon
9/19- Wednesday Evening Prayer and Bible Study at 6pm
9/23- Sunday Worship, James 4
Sunday Evening, Church Council at 6pm
10/3- Jeanette Havens will be present to share about her summer mission work in Europe.

Coming in October, Reading with the Rev. and The Bible Readers will return.

Finally, thank you to all who attended and particiated in the Memorial Service for Al Seitz. It was a beautiful gathering and was very meaningful for the family and all who were involved.

Weekly Update

Happy Tuesday to you all.
The update is a little late this week, but you have not missed anything yet.

Tomorrow Night we will finish our study of 1 Corinthians as we consider Chapter 16.

Sunday Morning we will take a look a the last Quality of a Missional Leader: A Deep Love for the Church.

Looking Ahead:
Wednesday, August 22, we will take a break from our usual Wednesday Schedule with two special meetings:
Lunch with the Pastor. at 11:30 at Ollie’s and
A Fellowship Dinner gathering at 6:30 at a location TBD.
Plan to join us for a fellowship meal at either lunch, dinner or both as we take a break from Bible Study and share in some fellowship.

On Sunday August 26, we will have a Baby Dedication for Zoey Day and we will also be blessing our children as they begin another year of school. Bibles will be presented to children during this special morning.

Reading with the Rev., The Hunger Games Trilogy discussion has been rescheduled for August 26th at 6pm. I hope you will join us.

We will serve lunch at 15 Place on Wednesday afternoon, August 29th. There is always room for another server. Sign up and join us.

On Wednesday Night, August 29th Jeanette Havens, the missionary who spoke in May, will be back to visit with us about her family’s summer of work in Eastern Europe. It will be a great chance to catch up with her and her family.

Our Next Wednesday night series will begin on September 5 and will be called: What a Fellowship! We will explore some of the parts of our tradition and faith that are most important to us.

That is all for today. It will be a quiet week, but August will soon give way to September and new activity.

Happy Monday afternoon to you. This is a little update for the week from and for the congregation of Hillcrest Baptist Church.

Tuesday, the Noon Bible Study and Prayer Group will meet at 11am to finish studying the book of Mark. All are welcome.

Wednesday Night, we will gather for Bible Study and Prayer at 6pm and we will be studying in 1 Corinthians 15.

The rest of the week will be quiet until Sunday.

On Sunday, we will gather for Sunday School and Worship. The topic for the sermon this Sunday will be A Robust Spirituality and it is the second in our series on Qualities of a Missional Leader.
Following Worship, we will gather for a pot-luck/covered dish lunch and the Church’s Quarterly Conference.
There will be no Evening Activities on Sunday the 29th.

Coming up, we will meet for a discussion of the Hunger Games Trilogy on Sunday night, August 5 at 6pm. If you have read the books, I hope you will join us.

We will meet as Bible Readers on August 12th. If you are reading the whole bible this year, or want to read it this year, or want to start a project of bible reading, this is the group for you.

Finally, here are a few Prayer needs from our congregation:
Pray for Corinne in the death of her mother last week.
Pray for Al as he is struggling in his final days. Hospice will be called in very soon.
Pray for all those that we mention regularly but are not quite fit for the internet at this point.

July is coming

Good Afternoon Everyone. 

Here is an update of events that will be happening in July at Hillcrest Baptist Church.

Our Sunday Morning Schedule will be normal with Bible Study at 9:30am and Worship at 10:45.
July 8th, we will welcome Paul McLendon to the pulpit. Chris Aho will be away at a family reunion in Michigan.
On July 15, we will begin a sermon series on the Traits of a Missional Leader. The series will be between 5 and 7 weeks long and contains sermons of 5 specific traits. 

On Wednesday nights we will gather and finish up our studies of 1 Corinthians.
We will also have a time of fellowship on each wednesday either before or after Bible Study.
July 11 we will study chapter 14. You are also welcome to join us for discounted appetizers at Bonefish Grill at 430pm, or for an after-dinner at Heros following Bible Study and prayer at about 6:45. 

July 18 and 25 will follow a similar pattern and will be determined later in the month. 

Sunday Nights in July will bring a variety of activites. 
July 1: Deacons will meet at at 5pm. Bible Readers will meet at 6pm.
(If you are reading the whole bible this year, please join us. If you would like to join a group of people reading the whole Bible this year, please come as well).
July 8- No activities
July 15- We are planning to serve dinner for One Meal
July 22- Church Council will meet at 6pm.
July 29- No activities.

Finally, the Church will meet for a covered dish lunch and Quarterly Church Conference on July 29th following morning worship.  

 

There will likely be many other activities that pop up and we will try to keep you up to date about them here and in the weekly bulletins. Thanks for checking in on us and we hope you will join us for worship or any other activity soon.
